About Me & This Site
I very recently expatriated from the United States and now reside in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. I love it here. Most of the blog is about my experiences as a newcomer in Ottawa.
Professionally, I write software; specifically embedded software, which means software for the computers that are embedded inside other devices. I mostly write firmwares, bootloaders, and kernel drivers; in C, C++, and sometimes assembly. At the moment I work on equipment that powers cell phone 5G networks, and equipment that makes AI datacenters use less electricity (two separate projects).
I have a budding hobby interest in photography, especially urban photography. I’m also getting into geocaching. I’ve dabbled in screen printing, soap making, book binding, and model painting. I like writing, cooking, and films. All of these topics might come up on the blog. I might occasionally share political thoughts, particularly at the intersection of technology, or of gender/sexuality.
I run this blog on my own servers from my own home, as a hobby. This blog will never contain advertisements, will never generate unsolicited notifications, will not share your information with third-parties, and will never generate revenue for me. This extends to the commenting system and email newsletter as well. I’m using a mix of open-source and self-authored software to power everything. This blog is an oasis from the captalist-driven techno-authoritarian cyber-surveillence modern reality.
P.S.: There is a popular YouTuber who goes by the name Voidstar. We are not the same person, it’s just a coincidence of parellel thinking. I like his videos, though.
